New Zealand Bungy Jumping

New Zealand Bungy Jumping Welcome to New Zealand, the home of bungy jumping, one of the most thrilling and exhilarating adventure sports in the world today. Bungy jumping was invented in New Zealand by Kiwi AJ Hackett, who made this sport world famous when he dove off the Eiffel Tower with nothing but a bungee cord strapped to his legs in 1986.

Today everyone from grandmothers to young school children have bungee jumped from platforms found all over the country. Not for the faint of heart, this sport is very safe, but it does require some daredevil panache and guts as you hurtle to the ground with only one cord tied to your legs or with a harness. While most people prefer to bungee jump alone, some people jump in tandem with a friend or a partner. You also have the option of bungy jumping into a river, where you get immersed in before you ricochet right back out!

One of the best locations in the world and in New Zealand to go bungy jumping has to be Queenstown, which has a plethora of bungee platforms. If you want, you can jump into the Lake Wakatipu or into the Nevis Valley, where you can find the highest platform in the country 134 meters high. Queenstown has five different bungee sites as well as a parabungy operation as well.

You can also go bungy jumping in Auckland off the Harbour Bridge or Sky Tower, while other bungy operators can be found at Rotorua, Taupo and Mount Hutt, and for a difference, why not try bungee jumping at night!
