Lake Taupo Region
Lake Taupo region is located centrally in the volcanic heart of Northland. The Lake Taupo region is home to the largest fresh water lake in Australasia and the very famous Huka Falls. Lake Taupo region was created by a volcanic eruption, so it is no surprise that you find volcanoes even live volcanoes everywhere aound. Wairakei, located to the north of Lake Taupo region is well known for geothermal fields, boiling mud pools and steaming geysers. Tokaanu another famous village of Lake Taupo near Turangi has hot mineral springs for centuries. The mouth watering prawn burgers at the world’s only geothermal heated prawn farm in Tokaanu are rare delight, and must try for all visitors and a sure treat for gastronomic lovers.
Lake Taupo region enjoys relatively cool weather year round. December to January are the summer months in Lake Taupo. Summers are quite warm with temperature ranging between early to mid 20s, evenings in summers are however cooler due to the altitude level. June to August are the winter months of Lake Taupo region. Temperature drops down and snow falls during these months that linger on till spring. By the end of the spring season in November, the days begin to warm up again in the region.
