Eastland Region

The eastern coast of the Northland is fondly called to as ‘the east coast’ or the Eastland region. Eastland region is the most fascinating of all the regions of the New Zealand. Eastland is the place where first Polynesian migration canoes landed and also it is at Eastland where Maori and European first encountered each other. The Eastland region has the most diversified scenery and rugged terrain of the eastern coast. Travelers to Eastland region often feel like wandering endlessly in the hills and valleys and absorb the inner peace of this beautiful and serene place.

Eastland region has rich Maori history, and Maori life is clearly evident in most of the settlements you see here. Gisborne, Opotiki, Wairoa and Mahia are some of the famous cities in Eastland region. Gisborne in Eastland region is the first city in the world to receive the dawn of each new day. Gisborne has the fertile soil and famous for its farming of sub tropical fruits and vineyards. There are many famous beaches and hot spots for surfers here. Gisborne is often described as the ‘the city of bridges and ‘the city of parks’.

The popular highlight of Eastland region is the Te Urewa National Park, considered to the most attractive park of the New Zealand. It is a real sight seeing delight with lush forests, lakes and rivers. The national park offers many walk treks, varying from half an hour to several days. Eco lovers can enjoy the bird watching, trout, deer and other wildlife here. Lake Waikaremoana is the main focus of attraction for all the visitors to the Te Urewa National Park. The lake offers one of the best walks in New Zealand.
